Happy Friday 13!

This has been a strange week.  It started out OK, but it has become very scattered as it went along.  There are some people who would say that is because I tend to be somewhat scattered, but I won’t mention who that might be!

Monday I met Les for lunch on her campus.  That was fun, and I even took my camera to take some nice campus pictures.  (OK, so I knew the batteries were getting low.) After 4 shots, it died, and, of course, I had no new batteries with me.

Tuesday was very promising!  I played Domestic Diva by getting started very early making bread, applesauce, and beans from scratch for chili that evening.DSCN0354

Then The Hubby came home with lots and lots of information from a meeting on the new insurance policy at work.  I really think that’s when it became clear to me that this was going to be “one of those weeks” .  First of all it’s confusing, it’s going to be more expensive, and I have lots of paperwork to fill out – again.

I had so many plans for this week – and they didn’t include this.

Yesterday was exciting.  I had the annual vet visit for The Boys, and right before she left for class, Les decided to help me get them in their carriers.  That was a mistake!  Slims gets very scared whenever the carrier is involved, and he—had an accident all over poor Les’ dress pants.  It was not good!  It got worse as the vet told me his teeth are terrible again, and he needs a major dental cleaning plus a growth removed from his neck.  Then Whitey may have a heart murmur.  Sheesh!!!

When Les got home from class, she told me that as she was unplugging her laptop at school, her hand slipped, and she touched the metal prongs on the plug before it was fully out of the socket.  She got slightly electrocuted! She said, “I felt really funny for a while, but I’m fine now.”  This, as my mental mother dialog is thinking of all the possibilities and the fact that she drove home after this.

Needless to say, last night I sweetly asked The Hubby if we  could please get Chinese take-out.  He agreed.  As I finished my dinner, and eagerly opened my fortune cookie, this is what it said………

“When the moment comes, take the last one from the left”

Somehow, this seems oddly appropriate for my week.

Hope you have a good weekend!

Jack Frost…..just a bit

This is what greeted us early Saturday morning as we were leaving for the grocery store.  It was cold!  I had to wear gloves……………….the first time this year.  I even wondered if it would snow this month.

Well, today as we left for church, I thought I would have to bundle up again.  Nope!  It was warmish.  In fact, by the time I got home, I had to take my coat off, and we actually had the front door open all day.

Go figure.

I know the weather’s been crazy all over.  What’s it like where you are?

My golly!  I was so excited when sweet Linda of Coastal Charm let me know she had shared this with me!   This is my first ever award!

Is this great, or what?

These are Daughter #2’s new shoes!  Her fashion sense is very different from Daughter #1.  They are both pretty bohemian in their tastes, but in different ways.

This is pair #4.  They are replacing some wild yellow ones.  She keeps even the worn out ones.  I seriously think that whenever she gets married, there will be white (maybe lacy) Chucks under that wedding gown!

Here is a picture of her in costume for Halloween this year.

I think – honestly – if she could get away with this in real life, she would!  Gotta love her!

Cat Seal of Approval

Well, if I had any doubts about the new area rug I got for the family room, this clinched the deal.  No sooner did I get the rug rolled out, turned my back to look at something in the hall, and Slims had stretched right out in the center of it.  He had a very satisfied look on his face, too.

Whitey, being easily distracted, is looking at something else.  He didn’t really care about the carpet anyway.  He was more interested in the books and things I piled on the edge to get it to lay flat.  He has no taste.

Slims is contemplating the delightful patterns in the design, while admiring the softness of the pile.  Slims can always be counted on to appreciate the finer things in life.  A kindred spirit!

Tuesday Afternoon Tea

It’s tea time around here – 3pm – and I am taking a break.  I made some nice Bewley’s tea, and found some banana bread in the freezer this morning I forgot I made!  I love it when something like that happens.  It makes me feel like I’m getting a treat.

This is my favorite cup.  Thank you, Casey!  It’s so pretty and cheerful.  The best part is that it has a surprise in the bottom – a pretty flower to match the outside.

I have been working around this house so much, trying to get projects done that I let go.  Part of what’s motivating me is the visit by C and L over Thanksgiving.  I feel like I’m doing that nesting thing you do when you’re pregnant – you know, getting everything just so for the new arrival.  It dawned on me today that that’s what this push is like.  The Hubby thinks I’m just crazy.  Afterall, it’s just family!

Today I finally got the trim in the dining room all painted.  Whew!  Then I washed the hardwood floor in the foyer so I can move the table we keep there back in, and get it out of the study.  This will mean that I will then need to wash the hardwood floor in the study, and put down the area rug I put in there over the colder months. But not today!

Well, my tea is gone, so I had best move that table back into the hall.  I think if I get all this stuff done, it will truly be a Thanks-giving this year!

Thrifting Adventure Part 2

It was a very cold and rainy morning.  And it was dark.  And there was mud.  And it was dark.  Oh! I already told you that. Well, it was, and I had to park on top of a hill, with no lights around, and it was an equestrian center (if you know what I mean), and it was raining.  OK.  I’ll just get on with it.  But I’m really glad I wore my old, grubby running shoes.

I got a bit of this and that.  Here’s my finds. My rule of thumb is: if I get this gut feeling that I like it, get it, even if I don’t know what to do with it!

Three tablecloths and two sets of placemats.  They were all about $1 each, except for the green tablecloth.  That is a never- been- used Williams Sonoma tablecloth.  I paid $6 for that. Don’t know if I will use it as a tablecloth or as fabric for pillows.

This is a closeup of another set of placemats I just couldn’t resist.  Really – these colors do not go with my dining room, but I just loved them. You know how that is.

This is one of two little accent lamps I picked up.  They need shades, but at $3 each, that was fine.   I am using these in the top cubbies in my dining room hutch.

I have been wanting one of these f o r e v e r.  I may spray paint it black, but for now it has some faux foliage, and is up in my bedroom.  Things, however, migrate all over my house.

Now, these are really interesting, and caught my eye first thing.  I have been eyeing this idea that I’ve seen at Ballard Designs, and also this at Country Curtains. So, when I saw this grouping, my little mind went into overdrive! These are actually pieces of printed fabric with wax on them.  Here’s a closeup.

The Hubby thinks I’m crazy, but that’s OK.

Now….no thrifting adventure for me would be complete without clothes.  I’m pretty pleased with these finds.

Everything was $1, except the shoes – they were $5 because they are Steve Madden’s!

Here’s the inside of that cute little jacket….

I already owned the scarf (just thought it would make the outfit).

This dress is so cute!  It looks great with my red flats!

This satisfies my newly acquired taste for really bright, happy prints.  It will be great next summer.

This is the one I’m really excited about!  It will be great next summer as it’s a thin cotton.  When I put it on, it made me feel like Donna Reed!

Well, that’s it!  I call it a success.  Pickings were a little slim, but that’s the way it goes in the thrifting world.  There is always next year…………….

Thanks for stopping by, and please let me know what you think of my finds.
